We arrived at the vet about 30 minutes ahead of our appointment. We stayed in the carrier in the truck, while one of our daddies went inside to check in to let them know we were there & waiting with us out in the parking lot until it was time to bring us in to reduce our stress level of smelling other cats & dogs. We got waived in around 3:20 to go into the exam room. We weigh almost 3 pounds each with Awna being a bit heavier surprisingly. The vet approximates our age to be about 3 months old. We both did fine with the exams, thermometer up our bums to take our temperature wasn’t an issue. We were really good with the strange lady that was poking us.
Elsa has some discharge in her ears that was a bit concerning. The vet took swabs in both ears. She later put them on slides under the microscope to see what the potential cause was. No sign of bacteria or yeast though our daddies are going to keep an eye on her to see if they irritate her at all. It is possible that she has overactive glands producing earwax or her inner ears did burst which would explain the deafness, something to observe and further investigate.
We both have a bit of gingivitis, going to get some special treats to try helping to improve our teeth.
Though the ordeal happened when Elsa was taken back first for blood draw, shots & flea treatment. She jumped out of the arms of the vet tech & ran into a niche hole they did not know was there and ended up being under the cabinet. They made several attempts to get her out with no luck. They brought my daddy back & it was too tight of a spot to get his arm in.
So, this was now 5:30pm, over 2 hours and no attempts were working to coax her out. She had no interest in food and being deaf she was not responding to any sounds. The only solution was for them to call a plumber to have the sink disconnected to be able to pull the sink out of the way to get in to her. So they offered for us to take Awna home and as soon as they could get Elsa out they would call us, which might not be until the next day. These 2 babies have not been apart from each other.
Awna was moping in the bathroom, where we are holding them for a bit until they get more comfortable with their new surroundings. The vet did let us borrow a towel that had been pre-sprayed with anti-anxiety spray for cats to try to help keep Awna calm overnight without her sister.
Surprisingly we got a call about 6:30pm that they got her out, going to finish the exam and come get her. So I rushed over and the plumber was still there. They did call an emergency plumber out to move the sink to get her out.
Both kitties are resting now. Awna has a good appetite though Elsa was not interested in food when I offered them some can food. The poor girl just wants to hide & rest for now.
Elsa will be getting harness trained for when she has to go out of the house for vet appointments. I a’m going to let her have the weekend to get settled and perhaps Monday I will go get harnesses. My D’Artanian was harness & leash trained, used to go on car rides at least once a week, went to the pet store with me & would go on walks. I will not be doing that with the girls though harness trained for vet visits. Being deaf I don’t want to risk any possible issues.
At 6 months old both girls will be getting spayed and we will be doing the microchips for safety just in case they do get out. They will be purely indoor cats.
For now it is relaxing time being spoiled to get adjusted to their new home and preparing for the next vet visit in about 3 weeks.
